Core Bike show: Shiny Road Bits

Following on from Koo-Bikes visit to the Core Bike Show , this week we have got lots of random shiny road bits… Keep checking back for more….!

New Fast Forward Wheels

New prototype carbon wheel from Fast Forward which the company is hoping to launch later in the year. Currently in tubular tyre form they weigh in at a svelte 1000 grams for the pair. The concept was to produce a lightweight aerodynamic carbon wheel with replaceable spokes. The spokes have aluminium threads at either end so that they can be screwed into to place, so if you break one in an accident you don’t have to scrap the wheel! The pro team Vacansoleil are currently testing them. The price is likely to be £3000 for the pair.

Cipollini RB1000

We never thought we’d describe former Italian pro sprint star Mario Cipollini as understated but we think that’s a fair description for this super stiff looking machine; the price is certainly not understated at £4400 for the frame and fork but you do get the headset and seatpost clamp with that!

Ritchey P29er

Many of the older mountain bikers will remember the classic Ritchey P21 etc frames from mtb pioneer Tom Ritchey; this is the company’s eagerly awaited venture into the world of the 29er. This frame brings the model right up-to-date with a classic 29er format but harking back to the old frames with its use of Ritchey Logic II steel tubing.

Avanti Chrono

Avanti is a big bike brand in the southern hemisphere and the company was displaying this wind slicing Chrono TT machine.

Cinelli Handlebars

Massive bling factor with these Cinelli Ram bars.

De Rosa

i-Ride were displaying the brand new De Rosa Protos frameset built-up with Campagnolo’s latest Campagnolo Record EPS electric groupset and Fulcrum Racing Speed XLR wheelset – very stealth. The frame weighs in at just 800g and looks very stealth – cost for the whole bike – around £13,000.

Merckx

If you’re looking for a for a bike that’s a little different from your everyone else’s in the amateur Peloton how about the Merckx range which begs to be ridden hard and fast from the home of the toughest classic’s riders.

Bont Chrono Shoe

The men in blazers at the UCI decided to ban these Bont Chrono TT shoes – “not approved as technical innovations under article 1.3.004.”….. yawn.

And here are a few other random bits that we thought stood out at the show…

Core Bike Show: Thomson + Hope

Last week, a lucky few of us here at Koo-Bikes went to pay the guys at the Core Bike Show a visit, and have a look at all the latest and greatest shiny products. We took lots of pictures and tried to remember as much info as possible for you guys! Over the next few days we will show you some of our favorite and most exciting products. Keep checking back for more….!

Today we are looking at some interesting products from Thomson and Hope.

Firstly Thomson had a few interesting things on display. Their new direct mount stem will soon be available in a range of anodized color-ways which we are sure will be very popular.

To fit in with the whole colour coordinated theme which everyone seems to be doing at the moment, Thomson are now offering coloured anodized face-plates on their stems. Also check out the picture below showing the stages of machining going into their stems…

Perhaps one of Thomson’s most interesting new products, which is still in prototype phase, is a new range of handlebars. Everyone has been waiting for these for years, as I am sure they will be some of the best on the market, matching the rest of their range. We were told they would be offering titanium, carbon and aluminum options in various sizes. They are expected to be released later this year, so keep you eyes peeled! Here is a sneaky peak of an early production model of the titanium bar…

They also had on show some ‘special’ finishes that they have had on display several times this year. Unfortunately these don’t look like they will be available to buy, but they look pretty cool!

Finally, and perhaps one of the most exciting bits of news – and this is very unofficial at the moment – but Thomson revealed that they have been working on a dropper post. It is still in very early stages at the moment, but will hopefully be available in a few years time, so we will keep you posted with any more info as we get it…we think it is going to be a little bit special!

Next up was Hope, who always seem to be working on new products. We particularly liked the look of their new pedals, which don’t look to be too far away…

They also had a cool looking cyclo-cross hydraulic brake system on show, we think these sorts of systems will be the next big thing for this particular market….

The new green colour-ways available on a few products are a nice addition, and we also like the look of the one-piece cassette/hub-body with a close ratio 6 speed set-up, ideal for DH racers…
